Readers, for nearly fifteen years, I have been giving you links to PDFs of the court decisions I write about. And I have been hosting those PDFs on my own server. The RECAP project was very new when I started, and I did not hear of it for several years. The upshot is that I have a very large collection of PDFs stored locally. Each of these PDFs is also a media item in my database, so the large number of PDFs also means a larger database. I feel like a hoarder with an attic stuffed to the rafters.
Starting with today’s post on Sillam v. Labaton Sucharow, I will be linking to PDFs hosted at the RECAP archive if they are available. If a PDF is not available, I will be linking to the opinion in CourtListener case law database. If that is not available, I will do something else, which might include doing what I’ve done until now and saving the PDF locally on my server.
I have chosen these two sources, both of which are part of the Free Law Project, because I have some confidence that they will stand the test of time and will not result in dead links. Of course, the internet moves very quickly, and I may regret the decision years from now. Time will tell!
If you experience any problems retrieving opinions on new posts, please let me know. Thank you as always for reading!
