Readers, friend of Letters Blogatory and fellow blogger Pietro Franzina is organizing an interesting conference to be held in Ferrara on February 13. The title is The external dimension of EU Private International Law After Opinion 1/13.
I haven’t written about Opinion 1/13, as a don’t generally write about international child abduction. In summary, the European Court of Justice has recently ruled that the European Union, not the member states, had the authority to accept the accessions of non-EU states to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, notwithstanding that the EU itself is not a party to the Convention.
The conference will feature two panel discussions. The first will feature Giorgio Gaja, Marise Cremona, Paul Beaumont, Serena Forlati, and Marta Pertegás. The second will feature Alfonso-Luis Calvo Caravaca, Alex Mills, Alessandra Zanobetti, Chris Thomale, and Pietro himself.
If you’re interested, you can find more information at the conference website.
