Readers, I commend to you a fun new paper by Steven Loble, a friend of Letters Blogatory and solicitor at W Legal in London. The paper, available on his website, is titled “Spies and FX Dealers—They Can Be Made To Talk.”
Steven recounts his involvement in Gubarev v. Buzzfeed, a case I covered in April 2018, which involved an effort to take the deposition of Christopher Steele, author of the famous Steele dossier, in connection with a libel claim brought by Alexei Gubarev in the US. The paper gives an insider view of the procedural details of the English discovery proceedings. Steven also covers In Re Foreign Exchange Benchmark Rates Antitrust Litigation, another case, perhaps less colorful, that he handled. This is recommended reading for those interested in evidence-gathering in England.
