Letters Blogatory, the Blog of International Judicial Assistance, is a personal website published by Ted Folkman since 2011.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Email Subscriptions
If you subscribe to an email newsletter, we collect your email address and use it to send you the emails you have asked to receive. We retain your email address for as long as you remain a subscriber. We also retain data about when you open an email newsletter, so that our software can automatically unsubscribe you if you have not opened an email for a year.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts on Letters Blogatory may include embedded content (e.g. videos, tweets, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We collect information regarding your visit, including the pages you visit, the browser and operating system you are using, your approximate location, and the date and time of your visit in order to let us understand our audience and improve this website. We use self-hosted Matomo software for this purpose, which means that we do not share analytics data with any third party, including Google. We do not collect full IP addresses or other personally identifying information via our analytics software. (Note, however, that our web server does log your IP address. We make no use of these logs except as necessary for cybersecurity and server maintenance, and they are rotated regularly).
You can opt out of analytics using the following form:
Who we share your data with
We do not share your data with anyone, unless we reasonably believe the law requires us to do so. See below for instances in which your information is shared with our service providers for technical reasons.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue, and it also treats your comment as though it were a letter to the editor in a newspaper.
What rights you have over your data
You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
If you are an email subscriber, your email address will be shared with our email sending service, Mailpoet, to allow our emails to reach your inbox. Technical information about your visit, such as your IP address and your browser, may also be shared with our cybersecurity provider, Wordfence, in order to allow us to protect our server.
