Thanks, Bob, for the comment. If you have an iron constitution, you can read my entire archive of posts on the case to get an overall sense of my views on Steven Donziger. I think you paint with too broad a brush when you generalize from Donziger to human rights lawyers generally.

Dear Ted: I echo David's comment above. I have read the District Court Opinion, the Opinion of the Second Circuit on the RICO Verdict, and also the Decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague; all of which note the tremendous fraud perpetrated by Donziger. He continually claims to be a "Human Rights" Lawyer yet like many others who purport to claim that mantle, he is best at issuing farcical press releases and has no skills as a lawyer of any type.

Thanks for the comment, David. I suppose we won't really know what the government's deliberations were like. I am not surprised they wanted nothing to do with this no matter what they thought of the allegations.

I wouldn’t read too much into the DA’s decision to decline prosecution of the contempt matter. That’s expected. Indeed, it’s baked into the federal rule. Specifically, Fed R. Crim. Proc. 42(b) states: "The court must request that the contempt be prosecuted by an attorney for the government, unless the interest of justice requires the appointment of another attorney. If the government declines the request, the court must appoint another attorney to prosecute the contempt."
<br />
With all due respect, Mr. Donziger’s response to you is delusional. Every judge outside of Ecuador who has examined the facts of this case has found that he acted improperly and illegally. Contrary to his statements, no court outside of Ecuador has issued any order in support of the judgment. He deceptively cites to Canadian courts for support, even though the case in Canada was dismissed with the plaintiffs ordered to pay Chevron’s costs. His recent pronouncements remind me of those made by Baghdad Bob in 2003.

Thanks for the comment, Paul. In my opinion Roger Waters is not to be taken seriously on the Israel/Palestine question. I might say that if he wants to be taken seriously on the Chevron/Ecuador case he should rethink his views on Israel! But that would be a discussion for a blog with a different focus.

I wonder how Roger Waters got involved in this. If he wants to be taken seriously on Palestine he should avoid being associated with Steven Donziger.
